While it is absolutely up to you what you do on your special day, it is worth noting that wedding etiquette states you should only use the 3, rather than the 2, letter monogram after the wedding ceremony has occurred.

How to Create Your Couple Monogram

Once you’ve decided to create a monogram, you will need to choose how you want to design it. Essentially, you have two options: DIY or hire a professional. There is a range of graphic designers that you can engage to create your custom wedding monogram, curating according to your personal preferences as to colour, font and style.

Alternatively, you can create your own using monogram design software, along the lines of Canva. There is no single way to design a monogram as it all comes down to personal taste, however, there is a range of characteristics that you should definitely consider.

• Colour – Determine your wedding colour palette and use this in your monogram.
• Style – The style of the monogram should align with the overall theme of your wedding.
• Font – Choose a matching font, being mindful to only use one, maximum two, different fonts.
• Size – Not so big to detract from the overall look, yet big enough to make a statement.
• Name – A two-letter monogram, or three? You can use the initials of your first names, or your first name initials combined with the initial of your surname, to create a wedding monogram.

What Size Should a Monogram Be?

There are no steadfast rules for monogram sizing. The size will vary according to product and personal preference. A graphic designer will be able to provide guidance as to sizing and positions, but if you are doing it yourself then you can always use trial and error to see what you like.

• Napkins – 1-2 inches tall, located in the corner across from a tag if it exists.
• Table runner – 4-5 inches tall, one monogram placed at each end of the runner.

Additional Things to Know About Wedding Monograms

• Wedding monograms traditionally have the bride’s initial on the left, the groom’s initial on the right, and the initial of their shared last name in the middle.
