Memorable Israeli Gift Options For Guests
Whether you are collecting ideas for an Israelicentric welcome bag for guests, or guiding them in what to purchase from the Holy Land, there are a multitude of authentic ‘crafted in Israel’ treats to bring home. Be sure to head to the Carmel Market in Tel Aviv, the Machne Yehuda Market in Jerusalem and the Flea Market in Jaffa for extra inspiration. Here are some staples that are not-to-be-missed.
Artisanal Crafts
Every Tuesday and Friday, the Nachlat Binyamin Artists’ Market hosts crafters, makers, and builders who sell their objets d’art, glass blown and fabric works, local photography, Judaica and everything in between. It is truly a spot for gift-buying and some vendors will even ship fragile items for you straight to your destination.
Israeli Wine
In recent years, Israeli wine has made a name for itself and if your guests have a chance to head up north to Zichron Yaacov or the Galilee and even down south to the Negev, they will be pleasantly surprised by the varietals available. Many of the wineries are boutique, family-run businesses with a whole lot of heart (and good taste). Check out Tulip Winery, Hamidbar Winery, Tishbi Winery and Flam Winery.
Arak
This anise-flavored drink is a local favorite, crafted from raisins, dates, and sugar cane. It is often taken as a shot in Israeli bars or paired with lemon and soda water. It’s a Tel Aviv nightlife staple and for those who love to try new alcohols, this is sure to be a memorable winner.
Israeli Olive Oil
Fresh, quality olive oil harvested from local olive trees can be found in every super market, shuk, and even corner kiosks. But the adventure of heading up north to the Galiee to any of the kibbutzim and bringing back olive oil straight from the source is part of the whole experience.
Halva
This Middle Eastern treat made from ground sesame and flavored with various different ingredients includes everything from carob to chocolate, coconut, vanilla and pistachios.
